Predefinito Frankurt Advice

Hi there.

I'm doing the marathon in Frankfurt in October and staying for three nights.

I've heard it's not the most exciting city, maybe enough for 1 day to look around.

My plan was to spend the first day there, then go to Nuremberg for another day.

Any suggestions for day 3 or in general?

I'm interested in museums and WW2 history (hence Nuremberg).

Thanks!

Ed.

How about spending a day in Cologne? They have a fast train ("ICE") going
from Frankfurt to Cologne in one hour. You get out at the main train
station in Cologne ("Köln Hauptbahnhof"). From there you walk it to the
Cathedral and the river Rhine. When the weather is nice, you can make a
round trip with one of the ships on the Rhine.

Sounds more interesting to me than Frankfurt.

Regards,

Frank

Places like Mainz, Wiesbaden, Darmstadt, Aschaffenburg, Limburg,
Wurzburg, Michelstadt are all within easy train reach. Some of them are
not utterly interesting but are fine for a few hour trip. The most
interesting are possibly Wurzburg and Mainz. A scenic possibility is
navigation on the Rhine from Mainz to Koblenz. Or some walk in the
hills ... the Odenwald is probably too south, but some Taunus place like
Bad Homburg should be reachable by S-Bahn.

And Heidelberg and Marburg. I'd pick Heidelberg if I could only
do one.

Yes, I forgot Heidelberg, which I considered a bit too south, also for
some reasons I was assuming the train connection needed some more
changes, but I haven't checked recent situation.

May add also Worms and Speier
