Predefinito Italy is expensive (especially Rome)

We're back from one week in Italy (Rome, Florence). Still licking our
wounds. In Rome the cheapest accomodation we could find was a double in
a 2 star establishment for 110 Euro/night (= $140, no breakfast). All
places in Rome below 130 Euro listed in the LP guide were full. It
looked as if the entire world had decided to meet in Rome in these days.

A dinner consisting of two spaghetti dishes and a mineral water was 26
Euro in a restaurant in Via Cavour.
