As you've probably gathered by now, this newsgroup is mainly for
individual travellers rather than those who travel in groups -
probably the principal reason for the lack of response so far.
I actually work (part-time) in the group tour sector, but taking UK
groups abroad plus local guiding in the West Country, rather than
doing extended UK tours.
I can think of some companies who do round-Britain tours, but with the
best will in the world I can't think of any who I'd recommend to be
honest. The lack of recommendation is to do with company attitude,
poor itineraries (too much time on the bus and clearly not pleasant
for someone who's ill) and often poor guiding - sometimes none at
all..
One possibility might be to make London a centre for a few days and
take day trips (Cambridge, Oxford, Bath, Winchester etc), take the
train to Edinburgh (much quicker and more comfortable than a bus) and
do day trips from there.
I acknowledge that this is probably not the reply you've been wanting
- and if I could put hand on heart and recommend a quality operator I
most certainly would.

Some friends of mine liked Rick Steves' tour of England and Scotland. But,
of course, it is mostly--if not all--Americans.
