Dzien dobry
Since I studied Russian for several years at high school and that I have
a good command of it, I don't find Polish that outrageously difficult. I
had lessons at University and I will certainly continue next year, since
my teacher's job leaves me a fair amount of free time and very good
access to lessons!
What I find most difficult is to read clearly through these extravagant
consonantic agregates :-)
Don't ask me to write down this post in Polish, anyhow :-) I would need
a dictionary and I'd have to check every of my sentences thrice!
It's a question of accustomation, when I stay in Poland for a few weeks
(which I'll do very soon btw), I just get my ears and speaking tuned
into Polish mode. Works very well for Russian also (though I practice
Russian much more).
I don't think there is language as theatral as Polish. Beats even
Italian and Russian. When Krystian Lupa is in Paris, it's always a
marvel. Fortunately he comes once in a season! I had my biggest theatre
shock when I watched (that was already 6 years ago) the Stary Teatr
playing Hermman Broch's 'Les Somnambules' (1) at the Odeon...
I keep thinking that French is a very tough language to master. Its
pronunciation is full of traps, so is its writing, the verbal tenses are
quite intricate... It *looks* logical but I'm persuaded it is deeply
messy!
Regards
Stanislas (2)
(1) Les Somnambules in French, Die Schlafwandler in German, and IIRC
Lunatycy in Polish.
(2) Yes, obviously that's a Polish name!

The big plus of Polish is that the writing and speaking is consistent.
The problem is learning the pronunciation, which is tough, especially
with regard to the grouped consonants and voices.
It all sounds drunken to me, like Russian.
