Kiev
Hi,
Well, it seems in September I will be spending 10 days in Moscow and
Kiev.
I've been twice to Moscow and quite liked the place (with the usual
caveats) but have absolutely no idea on Kiev. I have the option to
spend the weekend on either city so, is Kiev worth a full weekend?
Thanks!

Re: Kiev
IMHO, it definitely is. It's usually still warm and nice in Kiev in
September. The city, at least its central part, is very "compact" unlike
Moscow and I enjoyed spending my time outside in street cafes and pubs when
I was there on a business trip several years ago. It's a very lively city
till late night hours and quite safe, too. Overall, I think it's
incomparably more beautiful than Moscow.

Oh, absolutely, it's worth a week if not more.
The main street, the Kreschchatik, is an awesome piece of Stalinist
monumental architechture, and very beautiful in a Soviet kind of way.
The Metro, although much smaller than Moscow's is nevertheless ornate and
impressive, there are lovely parks down by the river, masses of items of
historical interest, the lot.
Ukraine itself has similarities to Russia, in terms of the Soviet influence,
but is without doubt a very different country in many ways.
