Predefinito TGV...getting the right price

X-No-Archive:Yes

Any good tips about how to get a decent price for the TGV from Paris [or
Lille] down to the South Coast - Avignon/Montpellier type of destination...?
I have tried short time scale for buying, long time scale for buying,
different days of the week, different times of the day...that sort of thing
without much success.
I still keep getting quoted eye watering prices that just don't compare with
air travel whatsoever.

London/Montpellier [ok, have to take the Eurostar price out..] aller/retour
around £250 min per person - considerably higher for 1st class.....

Are there any techniques or offers that take place that make some sense of
the prices....?

It says return at the top but only the out going part is shown.
