Predefinito STAR versus PLUS ATMs in Europe?

I have used a PLUS network debit card for many years in Europe without
difficulty, but my credit union has now merged with another and has
switched to cards on the STAR network. I can't say that I have paid
much attention to this when traveling. Are the two networks both
available at most (especially French) ATMS?

STAR is a domestic US network that allows banks and retailers to
bypass either the MasterCard/Cirrus or Visa/PLUS networks for clearing
transactions (presumably for better internal transfer fees). [Credit unions,
which often offer "no fee" "non-owned" transactions especially need to use
whatever lower-priced alternatives are available.]

You should check with your card issuer, but if the card carries the Visa
logo, you should still be able to use it at Plus locations (and if it
carries the MasterCard logo, at Cirrus locations). Some credit unions,
because of the fee situation, do require specific approval for "non-STAR"
authorization, and may impose some fees that they don't otherwise charge.

My bank's ATM recently "joined" the Star network too.

I gave it no thought.

On last month's trip to Italy, the debit card still worked in every
machine I used it in.
