Predefinito Excursion into Switzerland

I'm going to France next week and won't be far from the Swiss border.

Are you charged the equivalent of duty when you enter Switzerland? Is this
an old wives tail or is it true? How much is it? This will be in a camper
van.

The alternative is to cycle the last few miles and enter that way. Are
there any foreseeable problems?

I would appreciate some help and would be grateful if someone could point me
in the right direction.

AFAIK you will have to purchase a sticker if you want to circulate on
highways, something like 40 or 50 CHF.

No but if you want to use the Motorway systems you will have to
buy a Vignette (sticker for the windshield) that costs CHF 40

None provided you are entitled to enter Switzerland

The Swiss have dedicated natonal cycle routes
and public transport is quite good with a network of
trains and postbuses that can get you almost anywhere.

Many thanks. I don't really want to travel far in Switzerland, but it would
be nice for the kids to say they've been there if nothing else. So I don't
expect to need to use their motorways. The vehicle I'll be driving is a
cross between a minibus and a van and I had heard that perhaps I should have
a manifest of what I'm carrying. The vehicle shouldn't be heavily loaded
though.

Many thanks for the link and will be looking at the cycle routes but not
sure if we'll have much time for that sort of thing.

Pay in swiss francs for that - it's only a few euros but
it's annoying when the border sales point uses a rip-off
euro equivalent.
