need tips for selecting private accomdation in eastern europe
Hi,
I visited Prague back in 1998, and I remember, there were tons of
people outside the train stations beckoning people to come rent out
their homes for the night.
We were 3 backpackers with very little stuff, so we chose one of the
guys, and he led us to his apartment. I believe it turned out to be
$10/night for each one of us, and it was a huge apartment, and quite
nice.
I now plan to do an extensive eastern europe tour this summer, and I
would like affordable accommodation again. But I would like to remain
a little cautious. Does anyone have any stories of getting to a
private apartment but it was awful, or how you dealt with that
situation?
Can we assume the tourist office always knows about the nicer private
accomodations or help us to find one that is safe (not leased by
someone sketchy?) How would we find such accomodations in advance?
If you have done such a thing, please share advice.
Thanks,
Gail
