Q: Where can she find out the meaning of the asterisks?
A: Oddly enough, in every day Dutch speech.

Seems to be working. Mrs G is now officially classed as "weird" because
she live with me without a written contract of any sort, and hence
cannot be registered with any of the organisations designed to help the
Germans round up undesirables next time they invade.

Things are getting worse. In similar situations more than 35 years
ago, there were no problems.

No doubt, and women used to wear little lace bonnets. Now it's a pain in
the arse from morning to night.

A colleague has just left work to have her first baby (frankly, if I
were giving birth it wouldn't be in Holland. I'd be headiing south in
good time for baby-day). She happened to mention that epidurals are only
available between 7 and 9. If you give birth at night, better have a
bullet to bite on. No wonder Holland has such a disgracefully high rate
of baby mortality.

Just another example of what a dump Holland is.

Do you mean Mrs G doesn't?

Has it? My wife had two perfectly normal births in a Leiden hospital.
Her friend who lived in the next block gave birth on the same night
and had a big panic because the GP didn't show up, when called. We
were passed on the way to a hospital by her ambulance with it's siren
and flashing lights going.

Maybe. We have the impression that Dutch hospitals are better than in
UK.

Epidurals don't lower infant mortality.
